Antonio Gramsci’s writings are integrated along with Anthony Giddens’s Structuration Theory and this integrated theoretical framework constitutes the conceptual platform of the thesis, while the ontological platform is inspired by the relational perspective that views space as an “existent alterity” and as a medium for action. The analysis shows that the Gramscian literature may help form a new way to look at the inequality of difference of human perceptions and meanings in time- space, and how these meanings reproduce and sustain specific power relations that legitimate one view of reality over others. The conceptual framework is applied and contextualised through empirical research on the function of the tourism industry in two Greek localities (Rhodes and Preveza). This book makes an attempt to explore the ways that the socio-economic trajectory of a locality evolves, through the Gramscian concept of “ideological hegemony”. The author questions to what extent certain powerful industrial groups can be regarded as local hegemonic blocs, and explores what this might mean for an understanding of the local socio- economic trajectory.

Isoperimetric Inequality
A closely related Dido' s problem asks for a region of the maximal area bounded by a straight line and a curvilinear arc whose endpoints belong to that line. It is named after Dido, the legendary founder and first queen of Carthage. The solution to isoperimetric problem is given by a circle and was known already in Ancient Greece. However, the first mathematically rigorous proof of this fact was obtained only in the 19th century. Since then, many other proofs have been found, some of them stunningly simple. The isoperimetric problem has been extended in multiple ways, for example, to curves on surfaces and to regions in higher-dimensional spaces. Perhaps the most familiar physical manifestation of the 3- dimensional isoperimetric inequality is the shape of a drop of water. The isoperimetric problem is to determine a plane figure of the largest possible area whose boundary has a specified length. The isoperimetric inequality is a geometric inequality involving the square of the circumference of a closed curve in the plane and the area of a plane region it encloses, as well as its various generalizations. Isoperimetric literally means "having the same perimeter".

This study has revealed no evidence that suggests transfers to rural areas are invested in productive activities. . It will also be shown that the proportion of the poor among the rural population that depends on agriculture is smaller than the non-poor, as is that among the recipients of government transfers. Botswana' s average economic growth rate of about 8 per cent during 1985-2005 is one of highest in the world. A major contributor of this growth was mining which, in 2005/06, had a 41. 4 per cent share of GDP. Various government welfare and empowerment programmes indicate that redistribution of the mineral wealth is widespread in Botswana. In this book, we will show that the pattern of livelihoods in a typical rural village has changed and provide new perspectives regarding the main sources of livelihood in rural Botswana as a result of the rapid developments following the 1980s. In particular, this book will show that contrary to expectations, agriculture is not a major source of income to the rural economy for many poor households, but income transfers from out migrants' members of rural based households is now very important.
