Exploring Social Workers' Attitudes toward Gay Men and Lesbian Women. An Implicit Approach
Furthermore, this manuscript documents a study that assesses social workers' attitudes toward gay men and lesbian women utilizing an indirect methodology, the Implicit Association Test (IAT). This is a new instrument that measures implicit attitudes while minimizing systematic error, specifically social desirability which is inherent in direct methods of inquiry. The sample (N = 110) consisted of a national random selection of social workers who were members of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) with the clinical/direct practice function designation during March 2008. The results indicated differences among the predictor variables with the most notable being the differences between the gender of the attitude object and the social workers' implicit attitudes. Implications for future research as well as social work policy, practice, and education are discussed.

An inquiry into sexual difference in Ernesto Spinelli's psychology. An Irigarayan critique and response to Ernesto Spinelli's psychology
He suggests that this will not only revitalize Spinelli' s version of existential phenomenology but also continue to adhere to its objective of challenging the cultural assumptions of our time. An analysis of his own therapeutic praxis reveals a blind spot in his work. Using Irigaray, Aloysius Joseph makes the case that Spinelli’s therapeutic praxis can benefit from paying attention to a perceptual and a sensory economy that is rooted in the client’s sexuate body and history. For her, sexual difference is the particular relation to the body and to language that structures inter-subjectivity. Ernesto Spinelli, a contemporary scholar-practitioner of existential phenomenological psychology is particularly attuned to the constitution of inter-subjectivity in therapeutic praxis. Philosopher-psychoanalyst Luce Irigaray claims that all inter-subjective relations are subtended by sexual difference and that forgetting this is ignoring a foundational aspect of human relations. This blind spot prevents him from realizing certain inter-subjective possibilities in his work with clients; namely, the possibilities afforded by articulating a specifically other.

Sociological exploration of current dream. A postmodern social-constructivist
The interviews were recorded and the edited transcriptions thus derived served as basis for a thematic qualitative analysis of the respondents' dream related beliefs and practices. The findings were also examined with regard to cultural and gender related patterns, as well as in relation to existing dream discourses. The study was prompted by the lack of existing research with regard to what people locally think and believe about dreams. The study aimed to uncover, explore, and describe current, local dream related beliefs, discourses, and practices, using a postmodern, social-constructivist, as well as a generally sociological approach. In support of this aim, a literature review of various religious, cultural, and psychological dream related discourses was executed. Semi-structured, qualitative interviews were conducted with twenty respondents who were purposively selected from the administrative database of a Vaal-Triangle University on the basis of culture and gender.
