Specifically, this study examined the theoretical proposition that when we are introduced to new people who bear similarities to one of our parents, we are inclined to confabulate memories about these new individuals consistent with the parent they resemble. These findings suggest that practitioners of psychodynamic models of psychotherapy should not automatically assume that their patients are inaccurately appraising their therapists as individuals. Psychological transference is a central construct in the theory and practice of most psychodynamic models of psychotherapy. These findings provide support for the more conventional notion that when mental health clients develop strong negative or positive feelings for their psychotherapists, that those feelings may well have a significant grounding in the therapist’s presentation of him or herself, as opposed to being a revivification of feelings from childhood projected onto the therapist. Findings from the present study failed to support this psychodynamic proposition. The present study empirically examined a key component of transference.

This study was designed to determine the Effectiveness of a group centered and combined group / individualized psychological training program on state anxiety factors and game performance for skills of a top 10 nationally ranked NCAA Division I women' s basketball team. The findings suggested that: (a) foul shooting performance can be significantly enhanced through The use of a mental and physical training program; (b) the collaborative group and individualized programs significantly effected cognitive and somatic anxiety in a positive direction, and (c) the collaborative individualized program produced significantly greater results on self-confidence and rebounding as compared to the group program. In addition, for athletes in the combined program there Were patterns of performance of the remaining open skills which were similar in the real world importance, but as statistically strong as rebounds by not minute. Data were collected during the pre-season, regular season, and post season play across a 20 week time period. There 7 athletes were in the group centered program and 3 athletes in the combined / collaborative program.

Transference
One definition of transference is "the inappropriate repetition in the present of a relationship that was important in a person' s childhood. " Another definition is "the redirection of feelings and desires and especially of those unconsciously retained from childhood toward a new object. " Still another definition is "a reproduction of emotions relating to repressed experiences, esp[ecially] of childhood, and the substitution of another person . . . for the original object of the repressed impulses. " Transference was first described by Sigmund Freud, who acknowledged its importance for psychoanalysis for better understanding of the patient' s feelings and feelings of rage.
