This study discusses the implementation and evaluation of a program of professional development for adjunct faculty at Ivy Tech Community College Region 9 through the application of Donald Kirkpatrick' s four-level model of evaluation for professional development programs. This study specifically addressed the first three of Kirkpatrick' s four levels - reactionary, learning, and behavior - by answering four research questions. Evaluative results of the study as well as recommendations for further study are presented. Among other conclusions, the study concluded that part-time faculty valued the opportunity to participate in a program of professional development. The study used a largely qualitative research model centered on the framework of action research. Two cohorts of participants in the program were given the opportunity to participate in the study.

The Adult Learner, Professional Development, and the Literacy Coach. An Effective Professional Development Model
The author of this book aimed to identify important characteristics of an effective professional development model, one that moves closer to answering the questions: 1) What components are necessary in an effective professional development model? ; 2) What makes a literacy coach effective? ; and 3) What leads teachers to change? To find answers to these questions above, an extensive review of literature was conducted in the areas of the adult learner, professional development, and literacy coaching. Although the body of research in these above areas is relatively modest, there are some preliminary findings. Both quantitative and qualitative studies have been published and provide guidance on PD design, as well as define future research questions. This review of literature identifies 10 major components of the adult learning process that should be considered when developing professional development experiences for teachers. The education field believes that literacy coaches are an integral component in magnifying teachers' professional growth. However, little has been done to determine what coaches must do to be deemed effective.

Biofuels and Sustainable Development. An assessment of Brazil's Program of Biodiesel
The impacts of oil seed production on farmer' s income were also estimated. Moreover, scenarios were also established to estimate the impacts of oil seed activity on climate change, mainly through CO2 emissions due to deforestation of native forests. The biodiesel production can now be better gauged in other parts of the Brazilian Legal Amazon region since the book highlights one of the most discussed topics about biofuels: oil seed production taking precedence over the sustainable development. The factor analysis was applied to support multidimensional assessment of linkages between oil seed production and the inclusion of poor farmers in the biodiesel chain. The book contributes to the better understanding of different stages of biodiesel production in the Brazilian Amazon Region, showing the linkages between the oil seed activity and the social inclusion, income generation, food security and climate change. Scenarios comprising the current and potential food production were established to estimate the impacts on local food security.
