Все рукописи каталогизированы, причем мы имеем каталоги двух родов: инвентарные каталоги коллекций и других рукописей и специальные описи рукописей известного рода, выделенных из коллекции рукописного отделения (о каталогах этих см. статью Meyer'a в «Revue critique», 22 сент. 1884). Из вошедших в состав рукописного отделения коллекции особенно замечательны: 1) Рукописи Слона, числом 4100. 2) Рукописи Коттона, числом 900, относятся все к истории Англии и составляют во многих отношениях как бы дополнение рукописей Record office. 3) Рукописи Гарлея, числом 7539; для грамот и документов, находящихся в коллекции Гарлея (числом 14236), имеется особый литографированный инвентарь. Для истории образования библиотеки Harley'a важен, сохранившийся дневник его библиотекаря Ванлея. 4) Библиотека древних королей английских (Old royal), подаренная Георгом II, заключает. в себе замечательные собрания рукописей архиепископа Кранмера, Генриха, принца Уэльского и др. Harriett Mulford Stone was born in New Haven, Connecticut. in 1844. In 1878, at the age of 34, she began sending short stories to Wide Awake, a children' s magazine in Boston. Two of her stories, "Polly Pepper' s Chicken Pie" and "Phronsie Pepper' s New Shoes", proved to be very popular with readers. Daniel Lothrop, the editor of the magazine, requested that Stone write more. The success of Harriett' s short stories prompted her to write the now-famous Five Little Peppers series.

This compelling multi-layered narrative suggests neohistorical fiction as a form for bringing textual agency to silenced women. Part two, Hannah’s Place, plays with the idea of historical facts and fiction. This book draws together new combinations of ideas and takes new investigative directions in dealing with the concept of an experimental historical fiction based on the notion of collaged texts, imagery and meaning. It examines traditional historical fiction for chinks in the hegemonic armour and drives through these towards strategies for recovering lost female voices. Instead their experiences were recorded in newspaper and archival documents reflecting patriarchal and class ideologies, which represented them as the ' other' . This book in two parts, shows that by working within neohistorical fiction a richer, non-linear view of female experience can be found. Unlike middle class women who wrote diaries and letters, illiterate women did not leave us stories of their colonial Australia.
