The development of the largest oil and gas fields in Western Siberia was considerably constrained by the harsh climate (colder than БЂ“40б°F), the absence of any social or transportation infrastructure, and the remoteness of the oil and gas fields from industrial areas. Therefore, employing traditional methods of development, planning, and use to the Western Siberian oil and gas fields risked extremely high financial and material expenses, which in turn could cast doubt on the feasibility and economic viability of widespread extraction of raw hydrocarbons.
