Some of the instruments that give women protection during armed conflict will be examined and it will be revealed that despite the protection, sexual violence has been and is still a feature during armed conflict situations and has been widespread. Although the entire community suffers the consequences of armed conflict and terrorism, women and girls are particularly affected, because of their status in society and their sex. Sexual violence against women and girls during armed conflict situations is often an extension of the gender discrimination that already exists between men and women in peacetime. The consequences of sexual violence against women during armed conflict situations will also be dealt with. . In this monograph, sexual violence perpetrated against women and girls during armed conflict situations will be examined. It will be discussed that the sexual violence against women and girls, and rape in particular have been used as a tactic of war and women and girls have been the most affected because of their vulnerability. Specifically, reference will be made to the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan.

A Situational Analysis, Based on Opinions of married Women in Islamabad, Pakistan Patriarchy and Conservatism Related to Domestic Violence Against Women.
An attempt was made to determine the magnitude and types of domestic violence endured by women and to get the women' s perspective and pervasiveness of domestic violence. Opinions of women in Islamabad were asked to get primary information. Multistage systematic random sampling technique was used to draw sample. The sample size was 162 married women of three different socio-economic class (upper, middle, lower) through an interviewing schedule. Violence against women is a universal phenomenon and worldwide social problem. It is important to consider the various forms of violence in broader terms to understand the intrinsic threat that layers the fabric of society. Findings reveal that domestic violence is the most common form of violence against women. It reflects on the plight of billion of women trapped in cultural and social quagmires around the globe. This book is based on a study conducted in Islamabad, Pakistan. The overall purpose of the present study was to find out the relation of patriarchy and conservatism with domestic violence.

As soldiers in armed groups and in the army are often too poor to have a wife or a normal life, they re-establish their control by attacking other men' s women and securing their livelihood by taking women as slaves. At the group level, sexual violence could be seen as a weapon to exert domination over a community or a group and securing land. At the macro level, being a security threat and committing severe human rights violations might be the only and easiest way to be a part of the bargaining table and obtaining power at the state level. This is in combination with gender perspectives that favour men over women. However, there is little knowledge on what is causing this violence. The level of sexual violence in the eastern DRC has received significant media attention. This book will contribute to this debate by offering different explanatory perspectives using secondary literature and primary data. It is argued that some of the sexual violence at the individual level seem to be directly linked to the poor socio-economic development in the DRC.

The main focus is on gender-based violence and the linkages between conflicts at home, fleeing from it, as well as the problems faced by women when they reach the ‘new' country where they are suppose to be safe, but yet continue to violence. By referring to my own empirical research I try to tease out the many instances of violence and abuse such women face, how they understand and try to make sense of it and how they try to take up their lives in Cape Town. I utilized the much used ecological framework to analyze gender-based violence and argue that, while this ‘model' is dynamic and allows one to make analytical linkages across different ‘levels' of violence, it nevertheless does not adequately provide for understanding the relationship between larger global and international processes, the connection that women may still have with their countries of origin and the impact of being a refugee or unwanted ‘immigrant' . A descriptive analysis indicated that three quarter of the women have in one way or the other been abused by their partners.
